Road Trip
May 28, 2005
I can think of no better way to begin a summer than with a road trip.
Mine actually began with standardized tests and autobiographical
questionnaires that had to be filled out for my psychological
evaluation (an ordination requirement). But now. Now I am on a road
trip and it has been quite the trip.
Adam and I met up in
Nashville for the Emergent Convention. From there we traveled back to
Atlanta and spent an awesome night and day at Lake Linear with Mark and
Robyn. We baked an apple pie on the grill, watched ‘The Forgotten,’
which is strange, not gonna lie. Mark made breakfast (cinnamon rolls on
the grill - a grill is very versatile) and we went off to ride horses
with Robyn. It was great: horses, lake, outdoors, Adam, good friends -
just a great day. After laundry, packing, and the season finale of
Desperate Housewives we were off again on Monday morning.
We
briefly considered heading to Mexico, but decided to be responsible
(why oh why??) and headed North. We ended up in Winston-Salem where we
stayed with Adam’s friend and met some of his other friends from high
school. It was good - worlds collided very smoothly.
The next
day we were off again and landed in D.C. I got to see my friend Rachel
and then we stayed with April and Nuc and had a great time. They are
the embodiment of hospitality. It was great - dinner in Georgetown, two
copies of their new CD (which is awesome!), a bed, a bathroom, and a
waffle breakfast. Really what more could you imagine?
From D.C.
we headed to Boston. Quite the drive. Through NYC, rain, Connecticut
(which should not take that long - hello traffic), and finally lost in
Boston. We did have a fun dinner at a place on the border of MA and CT
that gave us each three free used books. Any restaurant that gives me
free books is good in my world.
And now we’re in Boston. I got
to do my psych. testing Thursday and Friday in Dedham. But we’ve been
having good times with my friends from BU, Jess and Jina. They cooked
us Tofu for dinner and then generously made us pasta when we looked
quizzically at them and made faces (it’s squishy). We have the weekend
to explore and then we’re headed home (my home) for a meeting with my
Presbytery committee and good times in Rochester (weather permitting).
It’s
been a lot of time in the car, but it’s good. We’re goofy. We have
eclectic music tastes so we’ve sung along with everything from Johnny
Cash to Madonna to Harp 46 (okay, maybe not singing with that one, but
still . . .). This is definitely the most time we’ve ever spent with
one another, but so far we’re both alive and no one is kicking anyone
yet (well, one time, but that was different). Good times in the car . .
.
