Phantom Hair

July 26, 2006

While I’m loving my new haircut – did I mention it means I don’t ‘have’ to wash my hair every morning to have it look decent? – my fingers and neck are experiencing something that must be akin to phantom limb syndrome.

When I run my fingers through my hair or wash my hair or brush it – I keep being surprised by how short it is! And, I keep feeling like there’s hair on my neck when there’s not – it’s strange.

Oh, and by the way, it’s called a wedding chop because it’s all the hair I grew for the wedding and then chopped off afterward. Apparently this is a known phenomenon. I was trying to hold out a little longer to do locks for love. But, I had to be honest with myself and admit that would take my hair years – it grows very slowly. And, I live in Atlanta and we’re in the middle of a heat wave. So, I’ll have to find another way to give something. Alas and alack.

I had 21 months of hair cut off yesterday (cut very close to scalp to get 9 + inch ponies – 16 of them). I started off very short. Today as I contemplated the experience, which I enjoyed the growing and the cutting and the sharing with all who would listen, I came up with the ‘Phantom Hair Phenomena’ phrase. It described my WAY to much shampoo this morning (I would have what would be described as a brush cut now). It desribed my pushing the hair back while I walked the dog (no hair to push), must confess it was a cooler head I had today too.

I will be sending them off to a place that will take 8 and up.

    Yeahh
