On The Road Again
April 6, 2005
I once was on a three week trip with my family in California. We flew into San Francisco and rented a van and drove a nice loop through Northern California. It was beautiful and I still remember parts of it, but it was a lot of driving. My brother was in the back seat and I was in the middle seat and I swear that car got smaller as time went on – by the end of the trip Matt was practically in my lap.
At any rate, every time we got back in the car (even if we’d only gotten out to get gas and use restrooms), my dad would start singing “On The Road Again.” He really never got much further than the first few lines, but that song has never been the same since. Every time I hear it on the radio this impending sense of doom settles in my chest.
It wouldn’t be Spring Break if we couldn’t go somewhere. So, we’re getting on the road again and all I can think of is that darn song. We’re road tripping – to another Seminary – woohoo, we’re dorks. Union Seminary (in Virginia) is hosting an ultimate Frisbee tournament for PC(USA) seminaries in the near vicinity. I’m not sure Georgia counts as in the near vicinity, but it’s spring break, so . . .
Anyway, Elizabeth and I are leaving early to make it a real road trip. And you know what makes it a real road trip: shopping. Yes. We’re going shopping. There is store in Charleston that sells this brand of linen clothing that is hard to find and we are SO going there first. And then, outlets in Myrtle Beach. And then, Richmond.
I don’t really care that much for ultimate Frisbee – flying objects coming toward my head, hand-eye coordination, not my thing – I grew up playing soccer, I’d much rather kick something or stop it with my body than have to try to catch it. But, it’s spring break and we have to go somewhere. AND, there’s this really hot guy who’s going to be there, so you know . . .
