In Search of Magic . . .

Do you remember the wardrobe from C.S. Lewis’ The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe? The one that had no back, but rather led the adventurous into another world? I love that wardrobe – the idea that behind something ordinary there might be something extraordinary. Books like that, ideas like this, they make me look at everything differently, a little more closely.

Take this piece of floor . . .

It’s where we sit to do our de-briefing after someone preaches in class. Just ordinary floor in the chapel.

And yet, there seems to be something more:

There we were, just sitting and waiting for our fearless leader to finish making notes and join us when Keith noticed something unusual. A tile came loose. At first just one. Well, we thought, this is an older institution, these things happen.

And then, there were more and more. Just loose tiles? Perhaps. But perhaps something more . . .

Jeff remains convinced that if you remove them in the right order steps will emerge to lead you down to the teachers’ spa (where, according to Jeff, Brueggemann can be found from 8-10 every morning).

It’s possible . . . My favorite theory is that if you remove the tiles in the right order the third set of doors along the side wall (the set that never open) will open to reveal something even better . . .
