Good Book
January 10, 2007
I’m not sure what I expected when I reserved Special Topics in Calamity Physics at the library, but it is certainly not what I got. I think I thought it was some kind of popular science tome that would be worthwhile, but take awhile to wade through (it is over 500 pages long).
But, it is anything besides a science tome. It is an incredible novel - the story of a life and a far-fetched, yet utterly compelling mystery wrapped up into one, with an incredible storyteller narrating you through it. Even with another book for class to be read (yes, I did finish that one too), I read this book in three days. It starts a little slow, it’s a bit strange and the writing style is different, but in the middle it grabs you and by the end, you can’t let go. Plus, I totally want to read it again to see what I missed (I think I”ll just skim though). I’m not sure there are any other ways in which I can rave about this book, but if I think of any, I’ll definitely put them up here.

Thanks… for the recommendation. I picked it up the other day and loved it. You were right on the money about it being slower in the beginning and then picking up rapidly. I was ignoring all else and staying up way too late to read it. Now,I want my husband to read it so I can discuss it with him.

So have you read any other good books since this one?
