when i first moved back up to l.a. i was living with this couple who was very into the eco-sensible lifestyle. they composted, ate only farmer's market food (here the farmer's market is not a grocery store like in decatur, it's an outdoor place where people bring stuff they grew in their garden/farm), and just before i moved out they installed a "green water system" in their backyard. this means that the water used in the house gets pumped under the lawn to water it, rather than using clean, usable water for the lawn.

I learned to love liver as a child, because of all the other good things that my mother would make to go with it. I never eat it out anywhere because it is way too easy to mess it up and over cook it.

Here's what my mother would do (and I know this completely defeats any health benefits of eating raw foods):

First, she would fry up some bacon, then should would cook the liver in the bacon grease. When the liver was done she would add a mixture of milk and flour to the pan to make a cream gravy.

She would serve all of that, the bacon, liver and gravy with rice. Yumm!

My understanding, though, is that liver is not all that good for you because organ meats tend to be really high in cholesterol.
