Carsick

After being on the road for 1500 miles over the course of three days, I have things to say about driving. Many things. Pointers for how to be a courteous driver. Rants about those who were down right evil on the road. Existential questions about the randomness of speed limits. Et cetera. So many things.

But, to say it all would take pages and pages. And, either I’d have to break it up into multiple posts (at which point by day two you’d be sick of it, because really who cares besides me and perhaps those who were driving with me?) or I’d have a HUGE post and you’d get sick of it half way down.

So. I’ve limited myself to the top ten things that happened while driving to or from Richmond this past weekend:

10. Disney music sing-a-longs. You know you wish you were in the car for that one . . .

9. Watching someone play basketball in the median.

8. Instructional conversations about what a directional is and why it is called such.

7. Gas station sunglasses. Who said rose colored glasses were bad – they make the world so much prettier.

6. The “car suntan.” You know, left arm farmer’s tan and left leg tan (if you’re one to hike your shorts up while driving . . . trashy).

5. Realizing that speaking in the ladies man voice is like smoking crack – once you start, you cannot stop (no matter how hard you try).

4. Trying to hold a conversation between two cars going 80 mph through open windows.

3. Caravan bitch session in the McDonald’s parking lot. 7 people, four cars, different driving habits and philosophies on driving (I still stand firm in the belief that if you are not actively passing in the left lane you need to move over, EVEN IF that means you switch lanes a lot – get over it, at least I go a steady speed and don’t get off at bizarre exits).

2. Going 80 in a 55 zone and still being one of the slower cars – yes Atlanta traffic!

1. Leap frog on 285.

It might seem as if some of these are dangerous activities. But I promise we were responsible 20-something-year-olds and were VERY safe the whole time. I mean, we made it from Richmond to Atlanta with only one stop in 8 hours – and no one got any speeding tickets, so you know we were being diligent and attentive.
