Blog Entry
June 22, 2005
Oh a blog entry. I’ve been avoiding my computer like the plague this week because every time I have to sit down it’s to work on this sermon and it is just not coming. It could be problematic, but we’ll see.
I’ve been wanting to write all week about how much I love public transportation, particularly subways and such things. I find buses highly confusing, so not those as much, but subways. I know I get to love them because I choose them rather than having to use them and that is not true for most of the people on MARTA (the mass. transportation system in Atlanta), but I love them just the same.
When I fly into Atlanta I take MARTA to Decatur and have someone pick me up there. It’s longer and it smells funky sometimes and I’m almost always the only white girl, but I like it. I like that I see a part of Atlanta I don’t normally see. I like that I see people I don’t normally see. I like it because it reminds me that I do live in a city and it makes me feel a little city-savvy. I like it because I can watch downtown come into view and recede as I head home.
I don’t know why I like it so much. I think it says something though to take mass transportation when you can (and I don’t as much as I should) - something about your respect for the environment, something about willingness to see the way other people live. I don’t know. But I like it. And I wanted to say so.
